RareInk Says
You don’t have to be an old-timer to appreciate the Julius Erving who once made the ABA his personal playground. Sure, that was the “Dr. J” of old, the one who sported a trademark afro and made red, white and blue basketballs look cool and the New York Nets’ uniform look sharp. Barely 23 years old when he moved from the Virginia Squires to New York in 1973-74, Erving had the whole world in front of him and the competition bowing down. His arrival in the Big Apple coincided with the smooth forward taking his game to heights that only the city’s skyscrapers could rival. The ABA’s regular-season MVP in his debut year with the Nets — the first of three league MVPs — Erving was also the playoff MVP as New York won the big prize. Dr. J snagged two championships, three scoring crowns and the praise of countless of hoops fans as a Net.
About the Artist
Combining traditional and non-traditional techniques, Leon "Tes One" Bedore creates contemporary works of art that contrast nature with technology, grime with grace. Allowing himself to find beauty in the mundane, he is able to juxtapose rejected landscapes with figurative illustrations, all the while identifying what is common between the conversing elements. These opposing forces coexist to create paintings that are both symbolic and metaphorical. Tes One’s work has included pieces for 1800 Tequila, Nike, Xbox, Barrack Obama, MTV, Beats by Dre, and ESPN.
