With all respects to the fictional Emerald City from “The Wizard of Oz,” the real-life one has had unforgettable characters of its own. The Tin Man, the Scarecrow and the Lion each had their unique characteristics, but could they play lock-down defense or sky over defenders en route to the rack? Probably not. That’s why “The Glove” and “Reign Man” dominated the Seattle scene during their heyday. Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp rank as two of the most gifted and admired stars to ever suit up for the SuperSonics. The nine-time NBA All-Defensive First Team point guard was as feisty as they come, able to get in the back pocket, not to mention the mind, of a foe and harass him to no end. Those who dared stand in between Kemp and the rack risked being on the wrong end of a monster dunk. He took no prisoners after takeoff.

About the Artist

San Diego based artist Mark Sgarbossa’s work spans a broad range of styles, which allows him to move seamlessly between projects from designing skateboards for Tony Hawk to gig posters for De La Soul, to tour merchandise for Ted Nugent.  An accomplished rock poster artist, Sgarbossa’s work has featured such acts as Helmet, Franz Ferdinand, Avenged Sevenfold, and the late Johnny Cash.
